I wish I had discovered this artist, Mladen Stilinovic when I was writing my dissertation. Born and raised in Croatia, a lot of his early work focuses on relations between the languages of art and ideology, which he questions and transforms by poetic and ironic means.He was an original member of Grupa Sestorice Autora (Group of Six Artists) who presented their work on the streets and alleys of Yugoslavia's cities. He is still examining everyday (socialist) life within his work, and looks at the dilemma lots of artists from the former Eastern Bloc face; exclusion from, yet participation within the Western art business.
