She nominated for last years New Contemporaries for one of her pieces; Rebus where she adapted a Dear John letter into a clever play sounds and words. By breaking down and analysing words and their sounds the video played on this; much like the game in the back of the Independent on the weekend (e.g. a picture of an eye = I)
Many of her video works have come from specific places or experiences; Taps (2006) came from a fascination with the squeaky taps in the British Library. She plays the taps which are making this howling noise skillfully to create a kind of homage to the play and to the building. Steps (2008) was made whilst on a residency at the London College of Fashion. In the DVD she tap dances on the never ending, empty stairs which she walked up to get to her studio.
The work is very structured and simple-it has one pun that isn't confused or mixed with other ideas or concepts. There is an element of fun and play within these interventions she makes, the videos and images aren't particularly high quality, there is a DIY quality to it all. The videos are made in response of these places but also manage to make this place somewhere else, they turn the places into more of a narrative everyday. Her classical musicianship allows her work to have a rhythm and a pace to it, which is particularly evident in her poetic, more romantic work. She sees her works as compositions that work visually and aurally, and what I've seen she does this exceptionally well.
