boyleANDshaw - streetfighter

Last thursday I experienced a new work by boyleANDshaw loosely based on the life of the boxer Paul Sykes (played by Adam James). Skyes died last year having had an intruiging career as a boxer, touring America, becoming a homeless alcoholic and recieving Wakefieldtowns first ASBO. Mixing music, film and sculpture, the performance lasted for a mamouth 4 hours with James utilising the whole of 6 Burlington Gardens (and many of the surrounding streets). 3 leather clad ladies roamed the same boxing ring set in choreographed routines and motifs, with visuals behind them and vocals transmitted from James's wanderings.

This show was part of GSK Contemporaries at the Royal Academy, they have a brilliant evening schedule which I will definately be visiting again. It runs till Jan 19th.
