Film 28-09-08

Il y a longtemps que je t'aime (I've Loved You So Long)
After spending 15 years in prison Juliette (Scott Thomas) finds herself living with her kind sister Lea and catapulted back in reality. Juliette, and the people around her have to come to terms with what she has been through - and the implications it will always have on her life.

Scott Thomas is phenomenal and has already been singled out for end of year award ceremonies from her performance in this film. The way she holds herself, and the tough, cold exterior she portrays is perfect. She wears little to no makeup throughout which complements her simple clothing and the muted colours and textures in the film.

The structure of the film is clever and although may seem slow-paced at times, it allows the viewer to understand and appreciate the characters thoroughly. The supporting cast; Lea, her extended family, especially her Vietnamese daughter give incredible insight and meaning to the film. The ending seemed a little rushed, and tied everything up in a way I didn't feel entirely necessary. This is only a minor problem to what is an excellent film.
